9 to 5

missing nine to five
what a way to have a sunday
barely getting by
it`s all taking and no giving
they just take ur power
then they never let u live it
it`s enough to drive you crazy
if you let it

Nine to seven thirty actually, but who's counting... What am I talking about? Hmm, i probably should tell you before you think I am mad.

Yet again we lost electricity. No, this was not one of those rain related outages. This was scheduled. A newspaper notification appeared on Saturday claiming that there will be a power outtage on Sunday in well pretty much all of East Bangalore. Nine-thirty to five were the timings they gave. And promptly, at nine thirty the electrons cease to flow in the wires.

This is all well and good till you realise its Sunday.. its hot... and there is nothing to do. Too hot to sleep, too hot to read. No electricity so no music to listen to. Radio is horrible in this city, except for a few hours. How I wish Go 92.5 were here. Well, considering they just went nuts and went desi, no.. i'm glad they arent.

Anyway, somehow managed to read some fiction. It was too hot and muggy to read the papers I had taken home to read for the weekend. :-(

Time inched on... minutes seemed to take eternity. (A good thing considering that I nearly finished a 400 page book in about 4 hours.) Not such a good thing, considering there was no circulation of air.

Five o clock came... and went... No electricity....

Anger!! My F-1 race... I'm gonna miss it...... :-@

Five thirty.... still nothing....

Get a call from a friend... he suggests we go see Munich... readily agree...

Six thirty... still no power... the race is almost over.... and I leave for an AC Movie Hall... to watch Munich..

@rachna
sadly, i am not blessed with ur source of funds to allow myself the luxury of spending 170 bucks for a movie (the going rates in bangalore) :-P

It is really irksome... :(

Well...all I can say is that I think you dont like Bangalore that much. It so happens with every person from Mumbai...my cousin was here, and he kept complaining about everything, from traffic to roads, and rains...

But this place is awesome and you got to explore more. I could say itz a lot more better than sweaty Mumbai...

@sujata
how right u are... its like living in a village in the eighteenth century :-)

@equilibrium
i never complained about the rains :-) i love these rains we are having..
but yeah, you are quite close... i much prefer bbay.. perhaps because its home and i'm just biased.
but with a remark like that against bbay.. u better be careful.. i dont want to start a bbay vs blore fight here.. let me just say that amongst all the cities i have been to, blore could be placed second to bbay IMHO.

Oh yes, a fight would be awesome....but I guess both of us are too patriotic about our cities, though they suck for a big time.

I love Bangalore!!!!

Clearly depicts the plight of all Bangalore KEB victims...Ruining a sunday is equvalent case of attempt to murder!

:)

@equilibrium
how dare you say that abt bbay!! if u gonna compare the two.. bbay is like heaven on earth (in comparison to blore, before others attack me)

@praveen
i hear u man!

U commentd on Radio stations here...

Do u think the number of other radio stations in the offing would in a way better ur loss for Go 92.5FM?

I totally get you dude...I know the feeling... I live in the oldest part of Delhi (near the University)and there aren't even any decent movie halls to chill at...They are all far away....

I irritate my mum when the lights go out;)

It rained in Delhi finally....Am so happy... no more jealousy:D

well....i would say the same about Bangalore - a heaven on earth, though it is actually hell!!

And btw...u said something abt the radio stations....how is that different frm your city's??

I feel radio rocks here...with 91 -where therez only chatter, and 93.3 - which always plays gangster's tracks, and that crappy sleeveless sarsa..yucks!!!!

@praveen
i doubt it.. bbay has 7 radio stations. Go was the only one to play english.. and then they decided to go mass market by ditching their listeners. all i know is a lot of my friends in bbay now use their mp3 players! so dont get ur hopes up. Radio Mid-day (aka Go) is coming to blore, however. I wonder what their model will be like here.

@advitiya
hopefully the power doesnt go for too long there, and not on sundays!! else i'd feel sorry for ur mom ;-)
kidding. but yeah, its a problem that south bbay never let me experience, hence i get really annoyed when it happens.

@tanvi
now i know why i had no power on sunday. all because u were jealous!! ;-)

@equilibrium
see! the truth will out eventually. "it is actually a hell" i wont say its that bad tho.
as for the radio stations, they are improving here. City has definitely improved. but yeah, the points u mentioned, i hate radio stations like that. for me radio plays good music (preferably english) with minimal chatter, or if there is some, it should at least be entertaining!

@arjun
what do u mean at least me??
the movie was nice.. and the point u mentioned really makes the movie different and interesting. :-) in the end, tho, you dont come away saying its a great movie. not bad either.

Hmm.. Im geared up for Go !

Ah I wish you have no more powercuts ever....
Plus U budding poet ;)

@praveen
yeah lets see what they do here!

@tanvi
not much of a poet.. more of a modifier. the initial lines are from the song of the same name by dolly parton. i just changed them around a bit. :-)
btw, we had a huge thunderstorm here last night!
