Queues

I had started this space with a theme in mind. I wanted to talk about the interesting things that happened at Wall Street. Things, however, change. So must this space. Its grown, its adapted. Thats where soem work related posts came about. Then some abt the city of Bangalore. Once again, this post has nothing to do with Wall Street. I dont even know why this belongs here. Probably need another space.

Some things never change. Take for example, alighting a bus. A company bus, for that matter. As we pull up to the company, and the bus grinds to a halt, everyone gets up and tries to alight. This includes people sitting in the back, with an entire bus load of people in front of you also trying to get off. Kind off gets annoying, when you are seated in the middle section and everyone is pushign for the door. I mean, even the bombay locals are more organised. (Darn, promised myself no more comparing blore to bom... but could not help it.)

This, however, is not limited to only the bus. Take, for example, an aeroplane. The ones, i've flown in are roughly 200 seaters; 6 seats to a row, and 3 on either side of an aisle. Am sure you know what I'm talking about. What I narrate is something that I have seen on every flight, be it to Bombay, Bangalore, or Trivandrum.

The plane lands at the airport, and taxis to the runway. The captain makes an announcement informing the passengers not to stand up till the plane comes to a complete halt. Does anyone listen? NO! As soon as we touch earth, people jump up to get their handbags out of the overhead cabin, and rush to the nearest exit. One of the many reasons I prefer window seats. None of this pushing-shoving to be experienced and u can continue to be blissfully ignorant of this behaviour.

I cant quite figure out, however, what it is that makes us so jumpy to get off the transport, and carry on? Is it so urgent that we have to run?

There seems to be an amazing chemisrty between buses and Zoxcleb!!

You always speak about them...

@equilibrium

equilibrium was right :P
Actually we are a nation where everybody is busy without work. we have little patience, plus life is a struggle here and nothing comes easy so everyone has to jostle hard for something which may be not to hard to get...
All written above is a futile try to explain inexplicable phenomena tsk tsk
Neway best of luck for window seats by push or shove ;)

Exits are a metaphor for women here actually. Everyone run for the women. Except zoxy is married to a window. So he doesn't bother much.

@tanvi
nice try.. but it still leaves me unconvinced!
and thanks.. i got a window seat today too, btw! :-)

@jetru
u think too much!

The bane of having a brain and too much glucose :(

yeah i understand completely ;-)

Cool cool..I agree..people are always in a hurry to get somewhere..if u detach urself from the melee for a moment, u get the distinct feeling that we are no better than millions of ants millin arnd..in fact, ants are more organised..they always move in queues ;D

@shreya
brilliantly put. i wish i came up withthat analogy on the post.. but then u were always that one step ahead! :-)
one must admire their discipline tho...

Oh well this is India... inspite of having a valid ticket we will still run for our seats in the movie theater and woe betide anyone who happens to be sitting in our seat. We rush like mad dogs when the trains arrive yelling at the porters. We still (at least the aunts do) yell while talking STD and its ISD god help my cousins... I think 2 of them are deaf already.
And of course we rush for seats on buses. Cause we don't realise that walking will give the same result. It has to be snatched and the person who's got a seat will look around in triumph, "I'm the king of the world!"

Your comment talks abt getting into places.. that i can partly identify with. I mean, i'd always run to enter the bbay locals.. and i still will given the chance. some ppl run to get to stand by the door! :-) but thats not my gripe.. thats all well and good... u need the window seat in the heat!
i cribbed about the rush to get off the bus! more so a company bus or an airplane, neither of which will leave before u alight. i mean the airplanes cant give u a free flight.. and the companies want u to go to work, no matter how little u want to :-P
