How Many People?

No, this is not in line with those PJs that float around. If you dont catch my drift good for you, as you have been spared.

This is a genuine question.

We have a conference room at work, which is not too far away from my cubicle. I'd give a rough estimate (guestimate?) of its dimensions to be of the order of 16ft by 8ft. Height is not of much significance, but for those nit-pickers, i'd say it is about 10 ft. The centre of the room has a table, about 6 ft long, and 3 feet wide. Ordinarily, ten chairs are placed around the table.

Now, here's the fun part. How many people do you think would be fit into such a room to conduct a meeting? Our team generally finds it stuffy with about 10 people in it. In fact, I cant remember having a meeting in there with more than 12 people.

Well, a team on my floor, occasionally decides to have full-team meetings in the room I have just described to you. Thats OK, you may say. Yet, you wonder, how many can they be?

I feel claustrophobic just thinking about it. How did they manage 35-40 people in there?

Maybe they have a witch or a wizard amongst them, and us muggles dont know about it.

Comments:
GPS man..there are way too many people in this world..and we people who have grown up without any notion of personal space, have a much higher threshold for feelin claustrophobic..Mumbai locals..o man..let me not even go into that..inspite of u being the bbay-lover that ur..u cant escape the fact that these locals are abt the most densely populated nodes on this planet..

OMG! I am out of air...need my own space right now. I agree with the post above, we all need our own space that decides what claustrophobic means to us. But considering the room u described and the no. of ppl in it..argh...its ways to risky to even breathe in there.

@shreya
completely agree with u.. but mumbai locals are that way by compulsion. here, u have an option of using the bigger conference rooms.. 3 times the size used, yet, u squeeze ppl in there? and its a workplace mind u!

@sujata
lol.. am sure it wasnt that bad, but those of us, outside, were considering locking them in.. and making sure we could get a snake in there as well... who knows, maybe unleash /dev/null on them too! ;-)

Yuck man! 35-40 people in a 6ft x 8 ft room?

Wasnt even one among those 35-40 people sane enough to ask the group to meet somewhere else?

16 x 8... :-)
and u cant really tell ur boss that hes nuts in making u all meet there!

hmm.. that's lucky..

i spent 2 months in a project conducted out of a similar meeting room..

we have 8 computers and 2 laptops in that room.. also, we had ppl from delhi who had come down for training.. so in all 20 people working in the damn cubicle!!

it was so cramped that if a guy in the corner wanted to go to the loo, everyone had to get out!!!

16ft by 8ft!!!!How do you breathe man...I'll die of claustrophobia in such a place...

@mohit
is that the same room u guys freaked out in during 26/7?
but geez that does sound very cramped... but look at the bright side, if all the bathroom breaks were well times, u'd never have to work ;-)
